The Lighthouse Group Founded The Starfish Project, which uses 1% of all net proceeds earned each year from The Lighthouse Group and returns it to individuals in need, who reside or work in the communities where we conduct business. As the story suggests, The Starfish Project focuses on what can be done, not what can't be. TSP awards financial grants, given directly to individuals, under no requirement beyond need and available funding, so that they may overcome barriers to health, safety and security in employment, housing, food and all other basic human rights. Individuals in need are referred to TSP by local social services groups and religious organizations when an individual's needs are unique and not met by existing resources or when those resources have exhausted funding. The Starfish Project representatives work directly with individuals to find solutions and meet needs to bridge gaps in services for our most vulnerable neighbors. When you do business with The Lighthouse Group, you are doing good through the Starfish Project.
One day, an old person was walking along the shore and as they looked down the beach they saw a human figure moving like a dancer. Smiling to themself, at the thought of someone who would dance to the day, and so they walked faster to catch up. As they got closer, they noticed that the figure was that of a young child, and the child was not dancing at all. They were reaching down to the shore, picking up small objects, and throwing them into the ocean. The person shouted to the child “Good morning! May I ask what it is that you are doing?”The young one paused, looked up, and replied “Throwing starfish into the ocean.” The person replied “I must ask, then, why are you throwing starfish into the ocean?” with genuine amused curiosity. To this, the child replied, “The sun is up and the tide is going out. If I don’t throw them in, they’ll die.” Upon hearing this, the old person commented, “But, child, do you not realize that there are miles and miles of beach and there are starfish all along every mile? You can’t possibly make a difference!” At this, the child bent down, picked up yet another starfish, and threw it into the ocean and as it met the water, said, “It made a difference for that one.”
